The Fondjo Group is committing resources (both in-kind and financial) to recognize individuals who are making a difference in mentoring and coaching the next generation of African leaders. In 2023, the Group launched: 1) the Community Leader Award to recognize African youth that are making significant contributions to the betterment of their community; and 2) the African Mentor Award to recognize educators that go above and beyond to help empower students to accomplish their goals and to foster the next generation of leaders. Individuals can only be nominated.
Community Leader Eligibility
- Registered at a secondary or post-secondary educational institution
- Aged between 15 and 20 years old
- Have shown consistent involvement in leading or supporting local community initiatives
Mentor Award Eligibility
- Must have taught youth (15 to 19 years of age) in a local school at least 2.5 days per week in a classroom setting for a minimum of three years and still be teaching at the time of the nomination
Who can nominate candidates?
- Mentors can be nominated by a current or previous group of students (minimum of three) mentored within the past two years.
- Community leaders can be nominated by a minimum of three people or a recognized local organization (e.g. community association).
What will selected recipients receive?
- Up to $500 in financial and in-kind contributions.
When can nominations be submitted?
- Nominations can be submitted anytime, but awards are usually presented in August of the calendar year.
